1. Experiential learning to students with live problems from industry through Institute-Industry Interaction.
Objective
To bridge the gap between academia and the leather industry, the institution collaborates with the Kanpur leather cluster to provide students with hands-on learning experiences. Students are trained in shoe design, machine refurbishing, and equipment design, preparing them for careers in the shoe and leather industries while addressing industry challenges like manpower scarcity and equipment issues.
Practice
AIT established the “Shoe Design Lab (SDL)” and “Machine Design and Refurbishing Lab (MDRL)” in collaboration with Allen Cooper. Students are trained by industry experts to analyze, design, dismantle, refurbish, and build machines from scratch. Training also includes advanced software like Shoemaster for shoe design. Over 50 students have been trained, and 12 machines have been refurbished.
2. Employability Enhancement and Skill Development
Objective
To enhance employability by bridging academia-industry gaps, students undergo skill-based training in modern technologies like Python, ANSYS, and AUTOCAD.
Practice
Skill programs, mandatory from the second year, adopt Project-Based Learning (PBL). Training is conducted by industry experts, and 23 programs have benefited 1300+ students, improving placement quality and national-level qualifier performance.
Constraints
Time limitations and difficulty in finding experienced trainers challenge program implementation.
